How has architecture shaped the making of financial centres—and what can the spaces of finance reveal about technological change, institutional power and trust?

This workshop explores the role of the built environment in the development of finance and financial centres. From bank headquarters and stock exchanges to trading floors, vaults and data centres, financial spaces embody technological and institutional change while communicating trust, power, openness and modernity. We examine how financial institutions have transformed cities, why financial districts emerged where they did, and how digitalisation is reshaping the physical spaces and infrastructure of finance.
